Episode 7 – Abolitionism

Post-Revolution Abolition

Abolitionist movements played a critical role in shaping the history of the United States, particularly during the colonial times until the year 1800. 

Leaders & Movements

A numberof movements and initiatives sought to eliminate slavery before and after the American Civil War.

Abolition Achieved

President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863, amidst the Civil War. This historic document declared freedom for slaves in Confederate territory, effectively transforming the war into a fight for ending slavery.

THE RIGHT TO SECEDE?

The Civil War and the abolition of slavery are closely intertwined. Slavery was a key issue that led to the war, as reflected in secession documents from Southern states.

Do you believe  there are civil rights  issues today that could justity states from seceding? In your opinion, what is one of those issues?
